Our Lavender Gene Test checks whether a chicken carries the lavender allele, a recessive gene that dilutes black pigment and can create the soft lavender/gray coloring seen in lavender birds.

This test can confirm whether a bird carries at least one copy of the lavender allele. It is useful for identifying birds that may be lavender carriers, especially when working with split lavender projects or birds with unknown genetic backgrounds.

What this test can tell you:

Negative / Not Detected — the lavender allele was not detected in the sample.
Positive / Detected — the lavender allele was detected, meaning the bird carries at least one copy.

Important: This test does not differentiate between heterozygous and homozygous birds. A positive result means the bird carries lavender, but it does not tell whether the bird has one copy or two copies.

Results should be used alongside phenotype, breeding records, and test pairings when making breeding decisions.
